ChatGPT has no built-in way to remove a batch of conversations. You can delete one chat, or wipe every chat at once, and nothing in between. Here is how to clear your history either way, by hand or with a bulk delete extension.
ChatGPT itself only lets you delete one chat at a time or delete all of them in a single action. There is no built-in control for deleting a specific batch. A bulk delete extension fills that gap: it works through your own logged-in ChatGPT tab and removes 10, 50, 100 or every conversation for you, keeping pinned chats. Deletion is permanent, so check the list first.

Delete all is a separate, clearly marked action with a warning, because it removes every conversation in your history at once. Pinned chats stay either way, so the projects and prompts you rely on are safe.
You do not need an extension to delete your history. ChatGPT has two built-in options, and it helps to know exactly what each one does.
Delete a single chat: hover the conversation in the sidebar, open the three-dot menu, and choose Delete. This is the only per-chat control, and it is one at a time.
Delete every chat at once: open Settings, go to Data controls, and choose Delete all chats. One confirmation wipes your entire history. There is no built-in way to select a batch, which is the exact gap a bulk delete extension fills.

Archiving a chat hides it from your sidebar but keeps it in your account, reachable under Settings, Archived chats. Deleting removes the conversation and schedules it for permanent removal. If your goal is a clean, private history rather than just a tidy sidebar, delete is the one you want. Archived chats still exist.
In the mobile app the per-chat control is the same: open the conversation list, swipe or long-press a chat, and delete it. To clear everything, open your profile, go to Settings, Data Controls, and Delete all chats, the same action as on the web.
The bulk delete extension is a browser tool, so for selective batch deleting on a phone the simplest path is to open chatgpt.com in a desktop-mode browser, or do the batch once on a computer. Your history is the same account either way.
Deleting removes the chat from your account immediately, and OpenAI states that deleted conversations are scheduled for permanent removal from its systems, typically within 30 days, unless they must be retained for legal or security reasons. Archived chats are not deleted. Chats you never delete are kept until you do. If a clean record matters to you, delete rather than archive, and remember there is no undo.
