"All processing happens inside your browser" is the sentence both products lead with. SocialEraser backs it with open source: anyone can read the code. wyper backs it with a two-line permission list (storage, activeTab) that Chrome enforces, and with the Chrome Web Store review each release passes. Open source is the stronger proof for a developer; the permission list is the one a non-developer can verify in ten seconds on the store page. Both are legitimate, and we say plainly that SocialEraser's is the more open of the two.
TikTok, today. Filters, today: date, hashtag and engagement on X, where wyper offers only the keyword filter. Price: it is free and asks for a tip; wyper's unlimited tier costs money. If your cleanup is X or TikTok and you want to filter by date, SocialEraser is the closer fit and the cheaper one.
Instagram and ChatGPT, today. SocialEraser lists Instagram for the first quarter of 2027; wyper cleans Instagram posts, likes, comments, followers and direct messages now, and deletes ChatGPT conversations with pinned chats protected. If those are the accounts you need to clean this month, the announced roadmap does not help you.
Runs are paced with a rate-limit pause, the overlay shows a live counter, and on ChatGPT the target list is marked and numbered before confirmation.
Who needs which: an X or TikTok user who wants date-based cleanup for free takes SocialEraser. A developer who wants to read the code takes SocialEraser. Someone cleaning Instagram or ChatGPT today takes wyper, because the alternative is not available yet. Someone who values a paid product with support over a tip-supported one may prefer wyper; someone who values open source will not, and should not pretend otherwise.
